After staying in Kyoto, it was refreshing to stay in a smaller, quieter city for a couple of days. Himeji, had ample malls and restaurants to satisfy the needs of all tourists and yet has a nice small city feel. We saw the castle in the afternoon, and didn't encounter large crowds. Himeji is obviously very famous for its castle, but other than that lacks many things to do. I found my time there to be rather boring, and we often struggled to find activities to fill our nights with. We used Himeji as a central location to take day trips from - since we booked during Golden Week, hotel prices in more ideal areas, such as Kobe, were heavily inflated and unreasonable.Guest review byJacob - 8.0
The Himeji locals are friendly.
The Himeji locals are friendly. I also like the town as it has a little of an un-hurried atmosphere. Finding things to do and places to see it facilitated by a Tourist Information centre, where I have been most surprised by the things on offer throughout the year. (I wish I was there now for the Himeji Yukata festival) If you haven't already, please visit Himeji Castle and take a guided tour. The guides in my experience are full of information about e castle, its history and the history of its occupants. Himeji is a nice sized city, with a beautiful castle and associated gardens. We were lucky to be there during the annual festival, which was held over a weekend.
