Himeji is obviously very famous for its castle, but other than that lacks many things to do. I found my time there to be rather boring, and we often struggled to find activities to fill our nights with. We used Himeji as a central location to take day trips from - since we booked during Golden Week, hotel prices in more ideal areas, such as Kobe, were heavily inflated and unreasonable.Guest review byJacob - 8.0
The Himeji locals are friendly.
The Himeji locals are friendly. I also like the town as it has a little of an un-hurried atmosphere. Finding things to do and places to see it facilitated by a Tourist Information centre, where I have been most surprised by the things on offer throughout the year. (I wish I was there now for the Himeji Yukata festival) If you haven't already, please visit Himeji Castle and take a guided tour. The guides in my experience are full of information about e castle, its history and the history of its occupants. Himeji is a nice sized city, with a beautiful castle and associated gardens. We were lucky to be there during the annual festival, which was held over a weekend. I only had a few hours, but wanted to see the castle, which I did both in sunlight and after dark. It is stunning (I didn't go inside) and the moat contains enormous black carp I was alone, and on my way to visit friends the next day, but I would say the night scene looked good - I would have liked to be with others to go out and explore.
