Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. Easy to communicate with the staff at the reception as they used a translator device. When I totally forgotten about the need to arrange for cab to the airport, the staff reminded me and helped to make the cab arrangement even advising me on the best time to go the airport(as Matsuyama airport only open at 6 am). Everything was super clean, building itself was build recently. It is inside of okaido's shopping street, you can ride the Limousin bus to the airport near here. The staff were pleasant and I got a good night sleep both nights after getting an extra pillow. The mattress is fairly firm which was pleasant for sleeping and when getting the extra pillow, I was offered between three different types. It was really nice to have a deep bathtub, especially after 2 days of biking. The lighting options were very nice in the room, and the bed was comfortable.
