    We stayed near Tsugaike Kogen. It's a nice small town. The main drawback is that there is very limited affordable (i.e 1000 to 2000 yen per person) dining options and no supermarket. We had to drive down to echoland for dinner.

    One of my favorite ski resorts in all of Japan is in Otari!!

    One of my favorite ski resorts in all of Japan is in Otari!! Tsugaike Kogen. Gorgeous nature, awesome slopes, lots of shops nearby and the ski resort's infrastructure is great!! And you can stay at Hotel La Vista, the best place to stay around Tsugaike, right in front of the lifts.

    It is a small village.

    It is a small village. There are only a few restaurants to choose from, so if you stayed here a week you would need a car or to take a taxi to eat at some new restaurants. It is close to the Taugaike gondola. We liked skiing Tsugaike and Iwatake because there were nice long runs without moguls connected to high speed lifts. I might stay in Exholand or near Happo-One and then plan on busing to either of these resorts. I’m an intermediate skier, but older and do not care for mogul skiing or real extreme conditions.

    The entire check - in process went quite smoothly. And we are extremely grateful to one of the staff members named Tom. We had rented some skiing equipment from a place quite far away. When we were about to leave the hotel, we needed to return it. The driving distance was more than 20 minutes. He was so warm - hearted that he helped us transport all the equipment there. Then he even took us to the nearest station. This saved us a huge amount of trouble as we had a lot of luggage and a Child with us.

    The Staff were super friendly! and gave plenty of help and advice. Step out of the Hotel and straight onto the chair-lift! Ski in/out. and literally 1 minute from a very good ski-hire shop. Perfect.

    Location in Tsukaige itself is excellent. Close to the slopes. Convenient store right opposite hotel. Rooms are comfortable. Breakfast service staff were really helpful and friendly
