I went to Wakkanai for two purposes.
I went to Wakkanai for two purposes. I wanted to see Cape Soya - the northernmost point in Japan. I ended up taking a taxi to get there which wasn't cheap. I also wanted to ride the train the entire length of Hokkaido and Wakkanai was the starting point.
Unfortunately Wakkanai seems to be an economically depressed town.

We would like to stay another day or two in Wakkanai the...
We would like to stay another day or two in Wakkanai the next time we go and visit. As it was we spent less than an hour in Cape Soya, which was basically our main objective, the northernmost point in Hokkaido.
We enjoyed the park near the Gate of Ice and Snow as well as the observation tower. The view of the city from that vantage point was very nice.

Despite being a ‘hotel’ - Keep this charm a very homely feeling. Host is super friendly and very accommodating. There are tables you can use for meals brought in from outside. A microwave is provided. Even has a public bath facility which is amazing for a pension. Parking just outside the Pension and parking is free! Wonderful to sleep and wake up with the sounds of waves crashing onto the beach.

It's very near the train/bus-station/cinema/center-of-everything. Spacious and beautiful house with a well-equipped kitchen and dining room. Good place to meet people. The staff was incredibly helpful and always on a good mood, which is contagious in a positive way. There's a great manga library that has Golden Kamuy, Riki-oh etc. (in japanese of course). The beds and everything were top-tier.

I've been in Wakkanai with a group of friends.
The House is in the center, literally in front of the bus and train station and around there are several restaurants and conbinis.
The apartment was really beautiful, clean and well maintained

I really liked the onsen. The view from our room looked like a painting. The parking lot is also great for winter as it is indoors. Lots of basic amenities for a budget hotel. The only thing I disliked are the hard pillows.

This is the place to stay whilst in Wakkanai!! The location is central to restaurants, the ferry terminal, and attractions. The outlook across the harbour is superb, and the room itself is super-spacious and comfortable.
