We actually stayed in Kabalana which is just 25 min walk or 5 min tuk tuk drive from Ahangama. It was the right decision as Ahangama was twice as busy and Kabalana beach was way better. Ahangama is great for surfing, restaurants and social life! There are some weekly parties in town and a lot of solo travellers which can be met on social hostels, all around the town and at the beach. Definitely a quieter side of Sri Lanka, though its picking up and the nice part is if you have transport you can go visit the other beaches which are all in the same line and about 20-30 minutes distance within each other. There's a lot to do in terms if shopping some knick knacks, enjoying the food and some drinks as well. Thari, her husband and Ravi were very friendly and accommodating - they really do provide Sri Lankan hospitality. The rooms were decent for the price your paying. We would have extended our stay if we didn't have other accommodation already booked. The rooms are beautiful, they are decorated with great taste and the bed is so comfortable. Make sure you check out their cafe for breakfast for some yummy treats and great coffee, the staff is amazing too. There’s a little pathway to a secret beach (only 20m away) it’s so pretty and you’re gonna have it for yourself!!
