Very nice hotel in the centre. Our room was large and clean. Private parking is just in front of the hotel. The hotel also has a good and inexpensive restaurant. Breakfast is included a choice from fixed options. Friendly staff.

The owner's and family's hospitality was extraordinary. The small details in attending with us in the main quarter and offering local bites of food was greatly appreciated after a long trip. The walking tour through Kratovo explaining it's history was another highlight. Driving up and parking may be a small issue for some. Please call the owner before hand, as they come to the main road to guide you. They also assisted with parking the car at their property. All in all they made the a hard task simplified!

Kratovo is a great town set in the mountains.

Kratovo is a great town set in the mountains. The museum is very interesting, so is the clock tower, there are also plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants to try. I highly recommend tours offered by Jakim, who can be contacted at the Ethno House, he and his father know everything about the town and region. There are also nice things to do in the area around so it is worth to stay in Kratovo for 5 or so days to explore and see everything the town and area can offer you.

I had no idea, and simply ended up here.

I had no idea, and simply ended up here. Kratovo itself is unremarkable, but rather beautifully sited around a ravine; it is a quintessential rural Macedonian town, complete with market, cobbled streets, some Soviet blocks and decent food. It is also close to the remarkable "stone DOlls" at Kuclicki, a most extraordinary natural, post-volcanic phenomenon. The region is interesting, many churches, small villages, and a strong feel for this rather interesting country. I am glad that I extended my stay here.

A city with a fascinating history from all time periods.

A city with a fascinating history from all time periods. Here you can find geological curiosities from 20 million years ago, prehistorical sites, 11th century churches... Also the city used to be such a blend of different cultures, of which you can still see traces today. Truly fascinating. I recommend Etno House Shancheva for a stay in a traditional house. They can also offer tours which help you understand how the city used to function.

Kratovo is a lovely town or small city with lots of hills...

Kratovo is a lovely town or small city with lots of hills and forests around and rivers flowing through it, with ancient towers and ancient bridges, an interesting history, several sightseeings and a naturally formed stone sculpture park 10 km away. Just 30 years ago it could surely be described as a very beautiful town. Sadly, as is the case virtually everywhere in the southern Balkans, it's been turned into a filthy landfill. The forests have more discarded plastic bottles than trees in them, the poor river is the place where locals throw their trash, and plastic pollution is now the most notable sightseeing. But let's not lose hope: If a hundred or so volunteers work hard for a month or two and do a cleanup, the town perhaps can still regain its beauty and charm.
