It's a properly rustic paradise area, away from the more fabricated hotel resorts. Lots of locals who know one another and it feels safe, if a little rough around the edges. It has its own cultural and geographical charm that seems to differentiate it from other parts of Mauritius. Lots of places to eat, a good supermarket - seems expensive for the area, but I think this is quite common. Good offers of boat hire to get over to Ile aux Benitiers, which is well worth it. La Gaulette does not have a beach and the sea there is ugly.
La Gaulette does not have a beach and the sea there is ugly. Le Morne (which is very close) is the only place nearby with a nice beach, but it is widely occupied by luxury hotels. another problem with La Gaulette is that it is not usable as a base for visiting Mauritius, becasue is far away from all main attractions except 7 color earth and Black River falls.Guest review byUgoBItaly - 8.0

Close to Le Morne and other attractions and places worth visiting, 90 min drive to Port Louis. Island is a paradise for botanical enthusiasts, hikers, climbers, fans of all sorts of water sports and beautiful reef fish, encounters with whales, dolphins etc.very friendly lovely locals and I felt very safe at all times, safer than in European many places. The clear water at the beach was exelent. The clearest seewater I have seen on the hole island! The surounding with the mountains are great. The beach is clean. No waist is liing around. The entire house, our apartment (no. 1.), the garden were great. Our host, Marc was very kind and helpful. Let us emphasize the cleanliness, it was accurate. And the garden. We really enjoyed sitting on "our" terrrace in the evenings. Just like in a magical garden rounded beautiful plants, cute kitties and geckos. Parking was pretty easy, just in front of the house. The first afternoon on arrival went trail running with a very nice owner to the nearby hills and Chamarel waterfalls. Was able to rent a bicycle for two days and it was a great way to go to Le Morne beach and hiking trails and also all the way uphills to Cascade 500 pieds, Gorges viewpoint and Chamarel. Room was huge and modern and was also cleaned every day. I also enjoyed La Gaulette in general. My favourite area in Mauritius!Guest review byJarmoFinland

Josh was organizing an airport shuttle and a car rental for us. He was available at every time and he and his wife helped us with everything we needed.
