    Small town with terrible infrastructure.

Small town with terrible infrastructure. It is a shame to keep it in misery conditions with the loads of money brought by tourists, mostly foreigners happily walking in mud, dirty water ponds, as they walk in the luxurious boutiques owned by other foreigners. You may find amazing nature in many other Mexican destinations in better living conditions.

    Holbox Island was great.

Holbox Island was great. The center has an easy/casual vibe but lively and has good restaurant and store options. They had some great trendy cafes, also the streets are sand and can get flooded so don't plan on dressing up. We took the ferry there and a private boat back. I like the private boat option better. It was just as quick and a little cheaper and we had a really early flight so the ferry's werent working. If you have an early flight from Cancun, do not stay the night before on Holbox Island. It will require some extra planning if you do. The sandbar is beautiful. We went to coco beach to see the Bioluminescence by ourselves and it saved us lots of money because we were a big group. The taxi drivers are not very friendly but they typically follow the prices that they post but you will get the sly one sometimes. overall, I would reccomend Holbox and the Island life.

Punta Mosquito was our absolute favorite, but Punta Coco was...

Punta Mosquito was our absolute favorite, but Punta Coco was also surprisingly beautiful! We were glad we checked both out! The bioluminescence was a pretty cool tour, along with the whale shark tour. Be aware that most taxis are fairly expensive, and you won't find any rides cheaper than 100 MXN pesos. Don't bother with the kayak tour. You won't see much wildlife. The mangroves are pretty cool though! Kayaking is a bit tough. I do think the tour guides should provide a lot more instruction. Try to stay close to Punta Mosquito to avoid high taxi charges.

    Beautiful but very expensive everywhere.

Beautiful but very expensive everywhere. Great beaches and friendly helpful people everywhere. The island is walkable or golf cart taxis are only 100 pesos to go almost anywhere. They only take a maximum of 4 people, which was a problem for us. 5 with a baby! They can't take that many. Regulations. Excellent food everywhere but expensive. Nothing opens before 8am except oxxo. Book a hotel with a restaurant if you want early breakfast. Check opening hours! We did the whale shark swim. Cool but overrated. They swim very fast and don't interact. They are trying to get away!

Very nice island if you're okay with walking/bicycling a bit. Definitely a place for people in good physical shape, as there are many missing bricks, uneven surfaces, and potholes throughout the streets. Absolutely wonderful food, and generally friendly people at every turn. More low-key than Isla Mujeres, and will be my go to from now on for a relaxing beach trip. Bring sunscreen and bug spray!

All of the local Holbox residents and people were the best! Very friendly, helpful, and kind people! We had excellent restaurant and service experiences everywere we went! All of the white sandy beaches were beautiful, and we walked for miles on the beach, and enjoyed every step! :-)

The hotel is well kept, great rooms and very nice pool (though k didn’t use it). Breakfast is great - coffee, granola, fruits, eggs and bread. It’s not fancy, but. If you want a fancy one, with espresso coffee et , you can always go to any of the restaurants nearby. The staff is absolutely great. They were super kind. I got stuck on the island as the harbor was closed due to weather conditions, they helped me find out when it is open, ordered taxi etc. but more than that it was just a pleasure to speak with the manager and staff.

During last decade I visited over 150 hotels, including many 4/5 stars, and this one is easily in the top 3. - Location in the most picturesque and peaceful part of the island; - Very friendly and caring Staff in the reception & restaurants, - Great public areas - highly Instagramable pools, beach club, plenty of sunbeds etc. - We were super happy of our room with small private pool - convinient & with beatiful details like boho shower or underwater lights in the pool imitating bioluminescence, which is tha Island famous of.

We had a wonderful three-night stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help. Our room was cozy, though a bit on the small side, but that didn’t bother us since we were excited to spend most of our time outside exploring. The rooftop bar was a lovely spot to hang out, although the music was a bit too loud for our liking. We noticed this was a common theme at many places in Mexico, but it didn’t take away from the fun!

This is truly a boutique hotel; really nice design throughout; impressive menu (quality wise), nice pool, quiet in general though at time of our staying there was construction work ongoing on an adjacent plot. Didn’t bother us too much. AWA is a relatively new hotel.
