I would definitely recommend this wonderful homestay in Mulu! It was a warm welcome from James, who grew up in this remote place. Authentic doesn't get any more authentic, I think. He explained to us all the things you can do and what to bring for a perfect experience. With Brenda we had a wonderful tour of the large caves and she gives us all the information about the animals we saw along the way. In the evening they showed us a documentary on a big screen about the history of Mulu and the struggle between the locals and the palm oil industry. It was very interesting! We had a wonderful stay with Dina and Robert at D'Cave Homestay. There are a few different room options to choose from—basic private rooms with fans, private rooms with air conditioning, family AC room with attached bathroom, and even a five-bed AC dorm. The communal bathrooms have 2 toilets and 2 cold water showers, but everything was kept very clean. The beds were super comfy and bedding and towels are spotless white—exactly that we needed after the tough Mulu Pinnacles hike. Breakfast is included and changes daily. We had pancakes, fried noodles, fried rice, and one morning even got to try amazing local-style donuts filled with pandan custard. Coffee and tea are available all day for self-service, and there’s free boiled drinking water to refill your bottles. If you're lucky, Dina sometimes offers to cook dinner—it’s just RM25 per person and totally worth it! Robert used to be a cave guide and knows the park inside out. They also arrange transport for bespoke local trips of the area. The homestay is in a perfect spot—just a 10-minute walk from the park entrance and about the same distance to the airport. Airport pickup can be arranged for 5RM per person too.

This review is based on the situations in a remote place like Mulu. The stay was good. It's about 1-1.5 km from Mulu national park and airport, so it's in walkable location. The host Helena and Shania was supportive. The room had 3 single beds. Initially I thought it would be a dormitory type of stay. But they have multiple rooms. It is a budget homestay. They prepare dinner and lunch is you ask for. Prices are at par with Mulu park restaurant.
