There is nothing in Karapiro except some houses, a dam and a single cafe. I'm sure if you're into watersports it's great. We stayed two nights in order to visit the Hobbiton movie set, and that was enough Karapiro for us. The country atmosphere was wonderful.
The country atmosphere was wonderful. We really enjoyed the modern facilities and the quietness after living in Auckland all our lives. Very relaxing and only 12 minutes drive into Matamata township and Hobbiton was only 7 kilometres away. We ate at Osteria Italian Restaurant. Magnificent food but slightly expensive.
