My husband was born there and we have visited before during Art Deco week . Didn’t stay at the masonic then but ate there . That was fabulous . Stayed this time at the masonic. Disappointed by the empty shops nearby . Prehaps like any coastal town , a bit disappointing in the winter. The art deco centre across the road had moved. The food, shopping and beautiful Art Deco buildings were a highlight of Napier. We visited the Cabana, Napiers olders (maybe NZ's olders) live music venues and saw a great band. We missed Napier on our last trip to NZ so this time we were determined to do it in style. The hotel has done a wonderful job of recreating the Art Deco period and the attention to detail in furnishings and decor is very well done. We arrived quite early and the hotel very graciously let us check-in and get settled. The parking is not onsite but about only a few minutes walk.
