Spent 8 nights at four Okahune motel/apartments in early October. The town centre and the railway station front are the major leisure venues. I have taken a lot of photo/video streams in town and along the road to Turoa ski field. Accommodation and F&B services are above average, and many selections. Many local activities(rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and most importantly, snow sports) are available, and the tourist info centre is well located, and the staff there are helpful and welcoming. picturesque town with snowy mountain, stream and falls to visit.Guest review byEmilyNew Zealand - 10

Ohakune is a town still recovering from COVID and some not...
Ohakune is a town still recovering from COVID and some not so good ski seasons, but it is beautiful and well worth the visit. Apart from skiing and snowboarding, the mountain is a beautiful place to hike, mountain bike, or just visit for the view. Ohakune is small and easy to get around, with great cafes and restaurants. Ohakune has a great selection of stores, cafes, restaurant...
Ohakune has a great selection of stores, cafes, restaurant and bars along with a supermarket (New World) and other great attractions such as Ohakune Hot Tubs. Would highly recommend Mountain Kebabs if you're hungry, so good and owner been there 30 years! Pop into The Chocolate Eclair Store which has some great goodies and good coffee. Its also close to Turoa ski field (22-25 minutes) and Whakapapa Ski field and Village (40 minutes). Plenty of other tourist spots like Gollum's Pool etc. Worth the stay if you want to explore close to the mountains.Guest review byScottNew Zealand - 10
Lots of activities for families.
Lots of activities for families. We visited the Dinosaur Museum in Raetihi, Smash Palace in Horopito, hired bikes from Ohakune and the family biked to The Junction and back. Did the Mangawhero Forest Walk, took 4 year old grandson but it did take us a lot longer than an hour, probably 1.5 to 2 hours. The Carrot Adventure Park is awesome! Caters for all ages of children including adults! It was a bit harder to figure out where to go for a meal - but we enjoyed Mountain Kebabs for a cheaper takeaway meal and Osteria for a comfortable and Cosy family sit down meal.Guest review byKathrynNew Zealand

The bed and couch were very comfortable, and the shower was wonderful. It’s located only a short walk to the Ohakune centre but far enough away that highway traffic noise isn’t a problem. The hosts were extremely accommodating and helped us with our transport to and from Tongariro. We were able to organise the shuttle bus to pick us up and directly drop us off at the hotel.
