Picton is a beautiful place on a sunny day or the warmer months. There's plenty to do if you like the outdoors. It's very kid friendly with a great wee water park and playground. We were there for the annual Marina 2 Marina race which is a fun event to take part in. Picton is a nice place to visit so not just the town where you get the ferry to Wellington - it's way more than that! Good range of shops and restaurants to look at, great playground on the foreshore for the kids and a nice place to have lunch and enjoy the stunning view of the harbour. While many will only see Picton as a quick stopover between the North and South Islands it is really worth spending a little more time there. Picton is a lovely place to spend a few days.. or explore further. Irish pub up the road was good for a drink. Mostly did our own cooking but nice cafes around the corner for lunch. Handy bus stop across the road. Went to Blenheim for a day ( check the timetable.. doesn’t go every day) Walked to Waikawa Bay and back. Edwin Fox museum worth going to as was the Mail Run cruise. We stayed for 3 nights… arriving from Wellington by ferry… and leaving by bus for Christchurch.Guest review byDianeNew Zealand

It’s in a great location close to all restaurants, shops and activities. The staff were really kind and friendly, particularly Fiona on the front desk, who helped to store our luggage as we arrived before check-in. Our room was spacious, fresh and clean with very comfortable beds. Although we didn’t get to try the food in the restaurant it looked delicious, with great variety on the menu. However, this is a lovely little town, with plenty of eateries. Our room faced the harbour and was quiet and comfortable. Beds/Pillows are always subjective, but we found the mattress supportive.
