We were there for the annual Marina 2 Marina race which is a fun event to take part in. Picton is a nice place to visit so not just the town where you get the ferry to Wellington - it's way more than that! Good range of shops and restaurants to look at, great playground on the foreshore for the kids and a nice place to have lunch and enjoy the stunning view of the harbour. While many will only see Picton as a quick stopover between the North and South Islands it is really worth spending a little more time there. Stunning views down the harbour and plenty of eateries and accommodation options. We ate at Cortado twice as we could take our Labrador inside & they had a fab dog menu! A beautiful drive across to Anakiwa. We’ll definately stay longer next time.Guest review byPatriciaNew Zealand - 10.0
Picton is a lovely place to spend a few days.. or explore...
Picton is a lovely place to spend a few days.. or explore further. Irish pub up the road was good for a drink. Mostly did our own cooking but nice cafes around the corner for lunch. Handy bus stop across the road. Went to Blenheim for a day ( check the timetable.. doesn’t go every day) Walked to Waikawa Bay and back. Edwin Fox museum worth going to as was the Mail Run cruise. We stayed for 3 nights… arriving from Wellington by ferry… and leaving by bus for Christchurch.Guest review byDianeNew Zealand - 10.0

Lots to do and see. Recommend the Edwin Fox museum. Wine tours close by. Ferry port so always busy, Great selection of shops and eateries. Make sure you stop and relax for a while and perhaps walk the hills and surrounds. Pity the gondola never happened for Picton. Would have been an asset for the town. We had the full use of her kitchen which was very handy for us as we were returning to Christchurch the next day.
