Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants which were in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We awoke to find them in our beds and crawling all over us. Most unpleasant experience. I advised the manager but he didn't really apologise and I believe he was aware of the situation. His response was that he would need to get a pest controller in. Taihape has a captive client base as everyone has to travel through there. McDonald's doesn't open till 10am for breakfast. There are various degrees or quality of food outlets. There is a good cheap fuel outlet which I think is Waitomo. We were directed to either subway or the roast shop beside it. The roast shop smelt heavily of cigarette smoke so we opted for subway which was clean and tidy. Taihape could do with more quality cafes. I go through often and normally target the army museum as my stop off point as the food is quality and predictable. Great resting place on our journey South and then again on our way North. We enjoyed being able to walk around the town and loved our time in the Brown Sugar Cafe. Taihape is a quaint quiet country town.
Taihape is a quaint quiet country town. The locals are a friendly lot and like to have a chat. I didn’t venture out much during my 2 days there but when I did,it was relatively easier to find my way around. Jolande and Daniel are great hosts and we felt welcome from the first minute. The accommodation is great, the bed is comfortable and there is a nice TV room and spacious bathroom. Breakfast (of our choice) was included and Jolande makes a yummy home-made sourdough bread.
