No really a friendly place to live or visit...

No really a friendly place to live or visit...The airport is small and uncomfortable...It's all about tokens or tips for people who are not even helping you with your luggage and NO Grab car/taxi service there...No place to eat buffet restaurants and it's hard to find cook tilapia fish there in restaurants...

Lots of expats to talk too. Beautiful 17th century churches.

Lots of expats to talk too. Beautiful 17th century churches. Why Not is a great bar after 9pm, billiards, disco, 80's music. Boulevard is very nice to walk with live entertainment HayHay ,and chiccos were the 2 best restaurants, but plenty of other good ones. It's definitely worth staying a few days . Dauin is close by for diving and snorkeling. Valencia has very scenic waterfalls and mango ranch.

Dumaguete is a hub of all the places you could ever imagine visiting. Mountain treks, caves, waterfalls, and hot springs are all just 20 to 30 minutes away from Dumaguete. And oh! The beaches and diving spots are everywhere. You can't miss them, even when you travel North or South; you'll see a lot of shores. And if you're into history and culture, Dumaguete has a lot of offer.

We were rather disappointed with Dumaguete and fail to see...

We were rather disappointed with Dumaguete and fail to see why it's become so popular in more recent times, especially for many ex-pats who seem to regard the city as something of a Mecca. It's a rather charmless place and the traffic is terrible. It's also very noisy and pollution levels from the heavy and relentless traffic are high. The seafront area is okay, but rather tired and a bit rundown. It felt perfectly safe walking around late at night and there was no need to be wary of your circumstances. The seaport for the incoming ferries is within walking distance of many of the cities hotels and eateries and coffee shops. Basically, there really isn't much of interest to see in Dumaguete and for that reason it's a rather dull place, that holds little interest. On the positive side, there are clearly many decent restaurants around the place and especially near the seafront and we experienced a very nice and reasonably priced one near the seafront (Jo's Chicken Inato). We didn't stay long enough to experience any of the surrounding areas, including Valencia and the lovely countryside. These certainly look worth exploring. Dumaguete gives the impression that it is a very good place to stay as a base (we stayed at the very nice Hotel Essencia in Real Street), but apart from some decent places to eat and drink and decent shopping mall, holds little interest to the traveller. There are far nicer towns and cities to experience in the Philippines.

The room was nice and comfortable and especially the twin beds. The view from the room was good too, but spoilt somewhat by the protective glass covering getting old and discolouring and bubbling. The menu for evening meals was very good, especially for Filipino dishes, and the restaurant was lovely. The staff were always polite and helpful. The central location of this very pleasant hotel was ideal for easily getting about the city and the seafront and ferry port are within easy walking distance.

This hotel is try an OASIS in the city! Located a couple of kilometers outside the city you can truly get away from the outside world in your own paradise here. The house is super unique and the garden lovely. Free coconuts and very friendly staff is a nice bonus here! Highly recommended if you want to really chill and wind down
