We were there to visit the Stalag Luft 3 Museum and site, and were absolutely delighted by the experience. We will recommend it to everyone who has an interest in how Prisoners of War were treated. My father was a Spitfire pilot who ended up there for over two years 1943-5 and so my grown up children and I were fascinated by everything we heard and saw. Sincere congratulations to the Museum team who were absolutely brilliant.
Sagan is a very nice small town with very friendly residents. Altogether very impressive.

There are some ancient buildings but not all of them are redecorated. In the forest there is a place where allied pilots were imprisoned and dug a tunnel to escape from the camp.
On hot days you can relax by the river.
The market square isn't very attractive.
Not enough bicycles lanes.

Zagan is a one-horse town, nothing open after 22:00. No taxis after 24:00. A complete disaster. Only two bars in the entire town and they close early. Nothing to do there. One restaurant open after 17:00.

Breakfast was very good. The staff were exceptionally helpful arranging to print out our plane reservations and telling us how to find the place to pay a parking fine! The restaurant was good: inexpensive and wholesome. The room was plain but comfortable in a dated way. The setting was lovely and I would certainly use the Bartosz again when visiting Zagan.

A welcoming hotel on the outskirts of Zagan. It was a bit of a pitstop for us between Colditz and Krakow but we wanted to see The Great Escape tunnels, Tom, Dick and Harry.
It was a bit of a slog walking from the train station with our bags on a Sunday night, but we were welcomed with a couple of cold beers outside before bed!
Nicely sized apartment in centre of Żagań. You get a living room and seperate bedroom as well as a small kitchen. The communication with the owner was smooth and flat was equipped with essentials, coffee maker and tea bags.
Because the apartment is on the 4th floor you get great views of the city centre.

Hotel not far from the Town and restaurants, station a bit further and Stalag Luft 3 also walkable. Dinner and drinks very fairly priced and good quality and breakfast similarly so. The best place to stay in Sagan from my two visits.
