We love Olhao.
We love Olhao. We are in our 60's/70's and have visited often. We are not 'beach people', but it is lovely to get the ferry over to the island. We also did a 4 hour boat trip round the islands which was good. There is an abundance of restaurants/bars. Ubers are great, as the supermarket is a 15 min walk from the apartment. The train is handy (again, about a 15 min walk, but we used UBER. We visited Tavira which is cute and Faro was good for half a day look around.Guest review byJanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lots of sea view properties, I would recommend over looking the Formosa. Around 25 Euros for taxi from Faro airport & 15 mins. If staying at the Marina & market area thats so pretty. It's also just a short walk into the main square. Lots of history. Plenty of places to eat & drink are reasonable prices. One of the nicer areas I've visited in the Algarve.
One of the nicer areas I've visited in the Algarve. A few tourists about about not nearly as busy as Tavira, and as Olhao is a working fishing port, it still has that "local" feel to it. Decent esplanade adjacent to the harbour area although the only poor "rip-off" meal we had during our stay was along the front so my advice would be to go slightly inland where the quality of the food and value for money is a lot better. Nice and sunny during our stay but a bit windy so worth taking a jumper or fleece for the evenings. Best meals were at Piteu ds Baixa Mar, Taberna D'Olhao, Cafe Snack Domino and O Trevo. Olhao is a beautiful fishing town with its fabulous fish and vegetable market. The restaurants are excellent we never had a bad meal .The wine is also extremely good. Location is great - close to train station and plenty of cafes and restaurants around - and quite unique (upper floor to a shopping center). The hotel is very modern and new, comfortable beds, super clean and well planned in every detail. The staff is very kind and we felt very welcomed in the hotel. I have been highly impressed each time I have stayed here. The breakfast is excellent with a wide variety of choice. The hotel is in a lovely rural setting and is very peaceful and tranquil, but at the same time is only a 10-20 min drive away from Olhao and Faro and access to local beaches.
