Kata is a lovely beach There are some expensive hotels that are directly fronting the beach and so their staff clean the beach each day. Beach chairs are available but not so many that they cannot be avoided if you just want to walk on the beach. At the time of year I was there the main activity was surfing at the southern end with many people taking lessons. It's a long beach, not too crowded, and quite clean.
It's a long beach, not too crowded, and quite clean. You can get a 2 chairs under the umbrella for 100 THB for the whole day, they even give you a hand broom to brush off the sand and a bottle of water. The room is clean, bed is large and soft. The location is great good too, 5 minutes from more noisy areas but with plenty of amenities just behind the corner (2-3 massage saloons, 7-Eleven, motorbike renting). The blue bus (40 baht) to the Phuket town within 3-5 minutes walk.
