I stayed in Charlotte from Friday to Monday for a birthday celebration. Charlotte is walkable and lively. I would recommend to families, couples, and single travelers. The weather was great during our stay and we were able to try many restaurants, walk to rooftops, enjoy dinner with live music, and more. There are farmer's markets, workout classes, and many coffee shops to suit your tastes. Charlotte has something for all ages and lots of furry friends too!

Charlotte is a beautiful city and offers many experiences to enjoy. Eating out was always a treat! The Mimosa Grill, Cajun Yard Dog and Flower Child, were some of the places we dined. All were excellent places to eat.

As a former resident of Charlotte, I am impressed at how the city has progressed. There are many offerings for food and entertainment. Traffic on the interstates is a bit of a problem, but not the normal big city congestion.

I stayed at the Wingate overnight because of its close proximity to the Charlotte Douglas Airport. My expectations were simple: a place to sleep and somewhere to eat. This hotel has no restaurant but the Shalmar Greek restaurant is a 5 min walk along the high way. I noticed a lugguage trolly by the entrance but there was no bell staff when I checked in and as tired as I was from 7 hours flying, I had to lug my bags up to the 4th floor unassisted. The room was sizeable with a designated sitting area which would have been a great reading spot - had my stay been longer. Check in for me was actually my combined check out also. The full breakfast is complimentary but I had to leave way too early to even consider it. Sunny and Leroy were my two drivers and they put a welcoming face on the complimentary shuttle service Wingate offers.

We loved Carowinds had a wonderful time.

We loved Carowinds had a wonderful time. The art museum was very educational. There is so many places to eat. We settled on Olive Garden. We also went to Stars and Strikes, very family friendly outing. The crime in Charlotte is horrible though. A couple of cars got broken into at the hotel in which we stayed and we were right beside the outlets in a nice neighborhood, so just be aware. Aside from that Charlotte was nice.

A nice area to live or visit a lot of attractions a lot of places to go a lot of things to do. Nice food. Customer Service could’ve been a lot earlier construction was a little distraction. Lemonade was not good at all at the front desk. Bitter cookies were always good at the Doubletree. We didn’t have tissue in our room. We had half a roll on the roller housekeeping and just double checked always make sure extra role is there but everything else was OK. I

I don't usually bother with reviewing hotels, but I wanted to take the time to respond because I see some quite unfair comments for this hotel. Yes, it is budget and it IS basic. However, my room was scrupulously clean, with working toilet and TV, clean linen, daily refreshed teas and coffees, and a strong working lock on the door. I felt safe and comfortable and would happily come back. The young Indian guy on the door was a bit grumpy, but it was really no biggie. Very close to the airport.

The free airport shuttle pick-up/following morning drop off was great (Howard's service was the best thing about our stay). The room was clean and comfortable, and the shower had good pressure. In summary, as expected for a budget hotel and okay for a short overnight stay close to the airport between flights.
