Watkins Glen state park is gorgeous!
Watkins Glen state park is gorgeous! With current detour of Gorge trail there are a LOT of steps to climb at the start of the hike but once you get past those it’s an easy hike. The town has a lot of restaurants, some shops and locals were all very friendly. Went mid-week at the very end of the”season” so wasn’t too crowded anywhere. There will still tour buses coming in so suggest hiking early to avoid crowds. The Vintage Grand Prix weekend at Watkins Glen was on our bucket list for several years, and it was very much worth the wait. The Friday events included the vintage race through the downtown, and it was amazing to see all the old race/sports cars thundering down the main drag. The historic recreation of the technical inspection of the pre-war cars at Smalley's Garage was the highlight of Friday's events. It was awesome to be able to walk the stunning falls in the morning, browse the shops in the afternoon and view the vintage race at 6pm. Beautiful town that we are planning to visit again in the near future. We felt our weekend stay was too short. There is more to enjoy that just the gorge and waterfalls at the State Park (which in and of itself is a great experience). We stayed at Lakeside Resort which is top notch. Watkins Glen has several restaurants which are high quality. Even the cafe of the State Park served delicious sandwiches. Several vineyards are accessible from village. Even in winter, the waterfalls and lake are beautiful. Expect most of the main trails to be closed, so plan a few extra things to do. Walking around the town and shops, walk along the lake at state parks, visit Corning Museum of Glass, ski, tube or ride a mountain coaster are all within great distance!Guest review byJayUnited States - 10

Watkins Gen is a small town but has everything in walking distance from food, drinks, shopping and State Park and is a great place to stay after touring the wineries of Seneca Lake. I always stop in Columbia Sportswear Company, a neat store with tons of clothing selections. Two recommendations for places to eat Jerlando's and Thai Elephants.Guest review byfrankUnited States

The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The balcony was a nice touch, but here is no barriers on the balconies for each hotel unit, which was a privacy issue. The motel unit was clean, but definitely older. I appreciated the refrigerator and the microwave. Good water pressure and temperature in the shower.
