A really friendly city, several passers-by would greet us with 'Welcome to Uzbekistan!'. We really enjoyed checking out the market, taking a masruka to get around, and learning more about the local crafts by staying in Ikathouse, visiting Yodgorlik Silk workshop to learn how silk is made, and visiting the converted Masdrassa where a crafts development centre has been established. Happily could have spent more time there as it was simply a relaxing place to be, and felt less tourity. Rishton is nearby with amazing pottery too! We walked across the border from Osh, and took a public bus to get here, which was fairly straight forward.

Marghilon quite an uneventful city, there aren't much restaurants and there is not much to do except visit the two silk factories. From here we took a day trip to kokand, which is much nicer. stay there and take a day trip to Marghilon instead!

Definitely a hidden gem. There was so much to see. The people are exceptionally hospitable. The Kumtepa Bazaar was one of the most amazing shopping experiences. The food was also delicious. I would highly recommend visiting.

Margilon itself is relatively small, but it has a few attractions that can be seen in 1-2 days, such as the silk factories and the markets, and a small museum. We were able to walk to the silk factories, museum and craft centres from Ikat House Hotel, but the silk market is a couple of km out of town so taxi or bus is better. If you like Uzbek silk fabrics and want to buy metres of it (not ready made garments), go to the silk traders at the bazaar just out of town - we visited on a Sunday and found it across the road from the main farmers market - there is a section near the hardware and spare parts bit, which comprised of 4 large brick pavilions housing dozens of stalls with a big range of fabrics and range of qualities. The prices at the markets are much lower and more affordable than prices at the silk factories or craft centres in Margilon town centre. Margilon town generally felt a little more relaxed, has enough good restaurants to eat at a different place each day, so it's also a good place to just stop and soak in the surroundings. Being situated close to other cities in the Fergana Valley region, we found it to be a good home base from which to explore the other sights nearby. We had a hire car and self-drove, but it's also affordable to hire a taxi or Yandex-go driver to day-trip to the other cities including Andijon, Fergana, Namangan, Chust, Rishton and Kokand. Within each of the other cities we found wonderful people, regional museums and archaeological sites, architecture, monuments, crafts centres, markets with different specialists (silk, ceramics, knives, fruit!) and generally great fresh produce, tasty food and drinks. We spent a week exploring the region, based from both Andijon and Margilon - we could have stayed another couple of days to take in one or two more things.

Have never met so friendly people.

Have never met so friendly people. Not many proper restaurants. Anor Family is probably the best and there's also a quite good restaurant close to the main road junction in the center just on the corner on the road that leads to the train station. Otherwise mostly small fast food places with burgers and chicken.
