The room was incredible and the staff was wonderful. The variety of private baths available was the best of all the ryokans in the whole village, and the status screen in the room made it easy to determine when one was available. It was a wonderful experience that was worth the price.

A lot. We ended up getting a full Japanese 2-floor house, with a private outdoor onsen and a garden overlooking the nice river. I guess I wasn’t really sure what kind of room I had booked.
Everything else was great, too much to mention. I at least have to mention that we especially enjoyed the private dining rooms with views on the maple leaves and the river.

Gosyo Gekkoujyo is an outstanding experience from start to finish. The exceptional staff made us feel well cared for throughout our stay. Our room had an outdoor cave onsen that we never wanted to leave. The food was the highlight - we spent over four hours a day eating. That said, if you don’t enjoy all things Japanese then this might not be the place for you.
