Extremely beautiful hotel, very friendly and accomodating staff, great onsen, sake bar, library, and you get your steps in as it‘s fairly big. Next time I‘d like to try the in-room massage service. We have stayed at a Shigeru Ban designed place in Karuizawa before, but at around three or four times the price of what we paid here. While that one felt very secluded, this one had a bit of a communal feel to it. Breakfast was nice (not too many vegetarian options, but clearly labeled), and the breakfast area was gorgeous.

Amazing location by the sea. We watched a perfect sunset from our dinner table and walked on a beautiful beach in the morning. The staff are very kind, helpful, and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Cold green tea is available outside the baths. A probiotic drink was offered in the morning.

Everything was amazing. The room was beautiful, the food delicious, and the beds comfortable. They also had a wonderful hot bath onsite. The owner helped us out by letting us check in early and driving us to the station when leaving because there was an unexpected landslide which made taxis unavailable.

I had a perfect stay at Wakaba. The tatami room was spotless, very confortable and warm (I stayed during March) and the baths were amazing as well. the ryokan has its own restaurants and, although the menu is in japanese ( i believe they are working on a translation ) it was easy to understand with a bit of help from google and from the staff, which, by the way, were really friendly and attentive. Keita-san, who owns the ryokan speaks perfect english and we had a nice chat, he made sure I had an immaculate staying at Wakaba. I can't recommend wakaba ryokan enough. Sakata itself its a small but charming town, make sure you visit the tea house Somaro and Honma Museum. Cheers! 10☆
