Family hotels and homes in Wilpattu

We loved our two nights stay at the Ceylon Resort in Wilpattu. Roshan communicated a lot with us before our stay, helping us to organise a driver for pick up from the airport, as well as a full day safari in the national park. He even offered to drive us himself to our next destination, with a few hours stop in Anuradhaphura where he organised a guide and tuktuk to take us around. The room was clean and comfortable and the host and his family are very sweet, making sure all the needs of the guests are met. The food prepared by his wife is very tasty and they were accommodating all of my many food allergies, which I appreciate a lot. We absolutely recommend staying at Ceylon Resort!

Backwaters was a lovely spot on the doorstep to the western gate of Wilpattu. They organised a game drive for us (where we saw lots), a river trip and boat ride to our next destination. The rooms and grounds are full of nice, environmentally friendly touches, and the meals are great. Since the centre of the park is a little ways from this gate, a full day game drive turned out to be better than a half day - and allowed usto see lots of elephants at the end of the day.

Our stay at Wild Wadi Wilpattu was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and incredible service. We had the opportunity to embark on two incredible safaris with the knowledgeable and friendly staff. The wildlife safari was absolutely breathtaking—we were lucky enough to spot leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and so much more in their natural habitat. The boat trip through the mangroves and lagoon was equally magical, offering stunning views and an up-close encounter with Sri Lanka’s diverse ecosystem. The food was simply outstanding—authentic Sri Lankan cuisine at its finest! Both breakfast and dinner were full of flavour, freshly prepared, and truly showcased the best of local dishes. The accommodation was comfortable, well-equipped, and immersed in nature. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle, surrounded by monkeys and wildlife, was an unforgettable experience. It felt like a true escape into the heart of Sri Lanka’s wilderness. What truly made our stay so special was the wonderful staff and the incredibly kind owner, who went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. Their passion for hospitality and wildlife made us feel right at home. And last but not least—the absolute star of our stay was Duan, the owner’s young puppy. He is, without a doubt, the most adorable and charming little dog we’ve ever met! If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure, breathtaking nature, and top-tier hospitality, Wild Wadi Wilpattu is the place to be! We can’t wait to return.

The team’s attention to our needs, combined with their warm and friendly nature, truly made our time at Taru Villas unforgettable. This is a lovely family business with the ever smiling, hard-working and charming Dylan at the forefront of providing all you need for a very comfortable stay. Beautiful views across the rice fields by day and, perhaps, the odd mischievous elephant at night. Absolute top marks for the whole family who are attentive to all your needs. The kitchen staff deliver delicious food across the day and the meals really are wonderfully presented. Could not ask for more, the whole arrangement, the family, and the staff are just full of genuine character. If you are coming for a National Park tour, then Dylan is superb at delivering a complete package to suit whatever your needs maybe. I must just add real extra praise for his hard-work, and non-stop consideration during our stay. He really is an outstanding host and business manager; you’ll struggle to meet better. Top-end rooms offer more space and comfort [there will be additional rooms soon] but all rooms come with the kind attention of your hosts. There are a couple of bikes for a pedal to the lakes, hike across the paddy fields, or take the dirt roads into a very rural surround. Lots of cute puppies on site, they do bark on the odd night but nothing too irritating. WiFi is patchy, but that should be expected out in wilds. Confucius says; the wise carry a big stick along roads filled with territorial dogs. Highly recommended!
