It was a great pleasure to stay at Merdeka Guest House! Firstly, the host - he is super helpful, friendly, we spent great time together, he recommended fantastic local spots, made a little foody surprise in the mornings, even helped us find good cheap durian to try! Secondly, the room - it's small but clean and you have everything you need. It was one of our best stays in Malaysia.

They are really open, helpful and knowledgeable about Kuching and Sarawak and help you explore the region on a budget. Marco Polo feels like our second home in Kuching! They have everything a traveler may need & more. Lovely buffet style breakfast, including müsli, fruit, toast, different spreads, eggs, coffee, tea and a daily changing extra. The rooms are well furnished and have king size beds. The kitchen is well equipped including a osmosis filter. The entire Guesthouse is beautifully and authentically decorated. Very good laundry service, plus they even fixed my pants. The location in the 'artsy' Pandungan neighbourhood is great. There is a small economical food court, just across the street just as many shops, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets. It's only 10-15 min walking to the waterfront.

Beautiful house, very clean and in a good location. The security was so good in the house I felt very safe leaving my valuables there when going out. Lots of privacy, I didn't even see and barely heard the other guests. Great value for money. I stayed in a hotel the previous night that cost twice as much and was half as comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

The host, Zak, is excellent. Very friendly, helpful, with a great heart. He provided me with all the information about where to go, what to do, and he also offered some tours in beautiful places like the Bengo Dam and the caves. The location is good, very close to the waterfront, which can be reached on foot and then by jetty (only 1 RM! Last ride: 6 pm - afterwards you either take a grab or walk about 30 min until the Darul Hana bridge). It's very safe and the people are incredibly friendly. I was stopped on the street by little children who greeted me and asked for my name! The rooms are comfortable, and the cats are lovely!

Surrounded by the forest, you can look at the monkeys even from the pool. The staff was super nice and always available to give useful advices. I suggest to rent a car for easier mobility.
