I even got lucky and hitched a ride back to Nakatsugawa, with a perfect pitstop at Hillbilly Coffee (highly recommend). I stayed here after walking Nakasendo Trail from Tsumago. Perfect place to stay after. Do not hesitate. Go here. Book!

The host went above and beyond all our expectations. He mentioned that local restaurants were reserve only, and since we were already quite late, he offered to take us to a local public onsen were we could also have dinner. We had a nice simple dinner there, and a great onsen session afterwards. He brought us home afterwards, and had a good night's rest before our Nakasendo hike. Thank you!

Up to that point we had stayed in regular hotels near train stations at big cities so arriving at Guest house Hinode really made our time in Takayama very different in a good way. It’s nothing fancy, but a lovely Japanese home. We had rented a car so location was ok with us, but if you are on public transport it’s about 15mins walk to town. Free parking which was great too!!
