Unfortunately as I have big tattoos, I was not able to try the public bath house but we had a small private bath in our room and were happy with that. The sleep was great, no noise or bugs. The room was beautiful and comfy.

Please pay in cash or by card upon check-in. Guests under 12 years old are exempt from the lodging tax. Beautiful place. Lovely interior and very spacious. Location was great and staff were extremely kind and helpful. One of the best places to stay in Japan!

Speaking very good English and showing us all the facilities of this very beautifully restored traditional Japanese house. The house is made very comfortable with excellent home-style kitchen and living room, both supplied with high quality vinyl and CD sound systems. He suggested an excellent restaurant run by a man and his wife that was equally homely and with very good food. There is also a very cool vinyl cafe close-by that would not be out of place in Brooklyn New York. We were very nicely surprised by our stay at Guesthouse SHIGI and would recommend anyone detours a few minutes from the Nakasendo Trail to experience something truly special.

The place is so beautiful and located on the Nakasendo. The little neighbourhood is very cute. The garden was a magic touch. The beds were very comfortable. Although breakfast at the cafe was delicious. We loved our stay. My daughter said that it was her dream house.

The place it’s amazing, as a traveler that’s has been to a lot of hostels this was one of the best, consider that we are talking about Japan. So the environment and attention was on top for their standards.

First time in years that I have slept without earplugs. Good to know: you can not bathe at the guesthouse. I was a bit scared of using the Onsen at first, but ended up loving it. It is very much out in the fields and you hear all the wildlife if you open the windows. The host was very friendly and allowed us to check in later than listed for which we were very thankful.
