David and Marta were so helpful and made me feel really welcome.  I stayed for 5 nights in the single room with private bath and balcony. The room felt very private (I rarely and barely heard the people in the dorm next door) and I had everything I needed, including a big fan.  The balcony was great, strong wifi, good breakfast, and the back garden area was so peaceful, both day and night. I felt really safe. It was close to a lot of great places. The China House around the corner has really good food and.  There is a gym across the street where I swam laps twice. (Bring your own swim cap if you can because they are expensive and required!) During the day I walked to the Jade Museum and the National Museum (about 10-15 minutes).  Both are great spots! I took a quick uber to the Butterfly Garden and the nearby Zoo (actually a wildlife refuge, not what I would typically consider a zoo). They were both such peaceful spots to visit nestled into the bustling city. Having Barrio Escalante nearby was great.  I would have walked during the day but usually went at night around 9 or 10, so I took Ubers.  Lots of great restaurants and bars! Jardin de Lolita and Cafeoteca were my favorites.  On my last night, a Friday, I walked around Barrio Escalante. There was so much going on! Also, most of the travelers were in their 20s. I am in my mid to late 40s and felt comfortable. It is not a noisy hostel. Very chill and respectful. Great area to stay in!

At the hostel, all rooms are equipped with a wardrobe. Rooms are complete with a private bathroom equipped with a shower, the units at Ester`s Place have a flat-screen TV and air conditioning, and some rooms come with a balcony. Clean, convienient Esther was very helpfull to park my car in garage

The staff is really professional and it's a more meditative and spiritual environment. There's even a library next-door and you can relax in the kitchen. The Wi-Fi is relatively good as well, I measured (Mbps) 26 down/16 up with 88ms latency in the kitchen. I will definitely come by again next time I am in San Jose.
