Built 1000 years ago on a gigantic rock, this magnificent fortress rises above one of the most beautiful villages in the Aveyron region of France. The Château de Belcastel began with a 9th-century chapel, and grew over the centuries as generations of knights, nobles and rogues built their legacies within the stronghold. In the 1970s, renowned architect Fernand Pouillon restored the castle to its former glory. Today, there is much to see at the Château de Belcastel, including its original moat, several interior rooms, five courtyards, two chapels, and unrivaled panoramic views of the Aveyron river. The castle also houses numerous contemporary art galleries. The Château de Belcastel is a truly a unique collaboration of art and architecture, and of the present and past. Overnight guests at the castle enjoy all that the grounds have to offer, from the comfort of their own private Tower Suite.
The village of Belcastel is classed among the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" and is renowned for its serene atmosphere along the banks of the Aveyron river. Visitors enjoy the stunning 15th-century bridge and village church, the winding pathways through the center of the medieval town, and the many hiking trails that traverse the valley.
