The ease of check-in and check out and extending the stay. The bed was very comfy and the location is great. It has a relaxed but safe feel and its quiet given its on the seafront, but just walking distance to restaurants and pubs and pier etc.

We had trouble filling the online checking in - could not upload the ID information so had no way of getting into the room. It took a long time to work out there was a phone number to ring. Once we got in it was great!

We went away for a girls weekend and can't rate this accomodation highly enough. Excellent value, clean, beautiful views, cosy and easy to follow check-in. Amazing location. Spacious and full access to a stocked kitchen too. We'll be back, thank you!

Welcome to Clarence Quarters Vintage Charm by the Southsea Seafront Reopened in October 2024, CQ is a charming vintage guest house above The Jolly Sailor pub on Southsea’s vibrant seafront. Combining nostalgic character with lively coastal energy, it’s the perfect base to explore Southsea Castle, The D-Day Story, Southsea Common, and more. Please note: Clarence Quarters is a 4-storey building with no lift—access to rooms is via stairs only. This may not suit guests with mobility issues or heavy luggage. Maintenance and Refurbishment: Ongoing maintenance work is underway to enhance facilities. All rooms remain clean, comfortable, and full of vintage character. We appreciate your understanding. Clarence Quarters offers 10 individually furnished rooms with a mix of en-suite and shared bathrooms (shared typically between 2 rooms). Please read room descriptions and amenities carefully before booking to ensure your needs are met. The top-floor self-service kitchenette provides a convenient space for light meal prep with stunning sea and city views. Many rooms face the seafront—don’t forget binoculars to watch ships arriving and departing! The Jolly Sailor pub downstairs features a modern bar and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, plus live jazz, soul, and R&B music every Friday to Sunday. Some rooms may experience noise until midnight on music nights. Nearby dining includes fresh seafood at The Briny, classic fish & chips at Deep Blue, and cocktails at Sant Yago. Palmerston Road and Albert Road offer excellent shopping, vintage finds, and cafés.
