Neighbourhood information
Llanmadoc is a beautifully tranquil little village located towards the top end of the Gower, not far from Broughton beach. Within walking distance there is a shop and the village pub where you can get drinks and a good meal! Being part of the Gower Peninsula it is part of AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) which is a designated exceptional landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are precious enough to be safeguarded in the national interest. AONBs are protected and enhanced for nature, people, business and culture.
There are coastal paths which are suitable for families or the more avid walkers, The Gower Coast Path takes in the whole range of our fabulous coastline, from wide golden beaches and dramatic cliffs to saltmarsh and sand dunes – and of course that means that there’s also a wide diversity of wildlife to experience along the way – so make sure you pack those binoculars – and your camera!
On your doorstep is Broughton Bay, which is a very scenic large sandy bay, however word of caution, as beautiful as this beach is, it is not suitable for swimming or water sports as there are very fast tides and also shifting sand in the area. Also, the access can be a little bit tricky if you are not sure footed, but because of this, it is usually quite relaxed here even in fine weather. The good news is, the Gower Peninsula has lots of beaches all very close by, some of which have won awards and are very good for swimming and surfing. We strongly recommend visiting Rhossili Bay which is usually in the top 10 beaches in the world guide. It really is worth a visit.
For those of you who are bringing your dogs with you, the long sandy beach is open to dog walkers all year round and is spacious enough for them to have a great run around or splash in the sea.
