Excellent location, clean and cosy. Was on the forth floor and no elevator, so walking up the steps 2-3 times a day was a good exercise. Loved it!

Brand new luxury conversion of the 1st Rowntree Shop and home of the Rowntree family. Opposite the world-famous 'Shambles' with its beautiful old buildings which have been restored and now house cheerful cafes, quirky boutiques and even a coin & stamp dealer. The unique beauty of The Shambles has been recognised and awarded the title of the most picturesque street in Britain in the Google Street View Awards. The start of the Rowntree story - 1822 - Joseph Rowntree (Senior), arrived in York as a 21 year old man to attend an auction at The Elephant and Castle Inn, in Skeldergate with the intention of buying a grocery shop. No- 28 Pavement, an empty and dilapidated Georgian property. Joseph Rowntrees (Senior) new business began to flourish. Many years later Joseph Rowntree (Junior) handed the thriving Pavement business to his elder brother John to allow him to bring his much needed capital to shore up his younger brother Henry Isaacs small cocoa business. The name is changed to H. I Rowntree & Co Ltd. In 1883 Henry Isaac died of peritonitis aged 45 leaving his elder brother Joseph to develop the firm & ensure it's fortune.
