Elland is a market town in Calderdale, south of Halifax, sitting next to the River Calder. The town's name is derived from the Old English meaning 'land by the water, river or land partly or wholly surrounded by Elland is home to the fabulous Rex Cinema, one of Britains' oldest surviving and still thriving purpose-built picture houses.
