Neighbourhood information
Gower was Britain’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and our visitors enjoy the beautiful surroundings found all around us. We are also within easy reach of Llangennith, which boasts one of the best surfing beaches in Britain or if you prefer a bit more hustle and bustle head over to Swansea city centre to enjoy a number of outlets as well as numerous bars and restaurants.
There is a fine network of footpaths and bridleways suitable for walking, mountain biking and horse riding throughout Gower and access from Stormy Castle could not be easier. Much emphasis has been placed on preserving Gower’s natural habitats and there are several National Nature Reserves on the North and South sides of Gower, the nearest being a few minutes drive away at Whitford. The bay and estuary, especially during the winter months, is of significant importance in providing a rich habitat for wintering birds.
Stormy Castle is based in the area of Llangennith which is a rural village in the City and County of Swansea, South Wales. Nearby you can find Eddy’s Restaurant which is a modern café-bar overlooking the bay and is a great place to go for food. Or if you fancy going for a drink there is the Kings Head Inn, which also does food.
Llangennith has one of the most beautiful Sandy beaches in UK which is a 3.5 mile long stretch incorporating the award winning Rhossili bay which has been voted in the top 10 best beaches in the world.
There are coastal paths which are suitable for families or the more avid walkers, The Gower Coast Path takes in the whole range of our fabulous coastline, from wide golden beaches and dramatic cliffs to saltmarsh and sand dunes – and of course that means that there’s also a wide diversity of wildlife to experience along the way – so make sure you pack those binoculars – and your camera!
The surf in Llangennith is the best in all of the Gower peninsula, you can judge how the other local bays are by how Llangennith’s waves perform.
