The Tarsanas area in Kokkari, Samos, derives its name from the traditional Greek word “tarsanas” (ταρσανάς), which means “shipyard” or “boatbuilding site.” This name reflects the historical connection of the area to maritime activity and boat construction, which were once prominent on the island.
