The location, which connects to five mountain passes such as Nogi Pass (野麦峠), is about an hour from Kamikochi (上高地), Norikura (乗鞍), Matsumoto (松本), Shirahone Onsen (白骨温泉), and Kiso (木曽), and 1.5 to 2 hours from Azumino (安曇野) and Hida Takayama (飛騨高山), making it a base for each tourist destination.
