Property information

Prior to 1946, The Vagabond's House served as studio apartments. At that time, best selling author and Hawaii resident Don Blanding spent months at a time at The Vagabond's House while writing his best selling novels of California and the Central Coast. In 1946 the apartments became an Inn and with Mr. Blanding's approval, was named for one of his most famous pieces titled The Vagabond's House. If a vagabond (in our world being the consummate traveler leading a carefree life) were made to settle into a single place, Mr. Blanding's version of that place must surround him with the treasures that could remind him of his travels. This remains the aim of The Vagabond's House Boutique Inn! Quietly situated just inside the one square mile of downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, our guests enjoy quiet luxury in crisp rooms that express modern amenities among vintage references to vagabond travelers. In our garden stone courtyard view hummingbirds bathing in our spectacular waterfall or enjoy a complimentary glass of wine while warming beside the elegant fire pit.
