I loved everything this place has to offer. Best place to stay near Hilo. It has it all and more. Without the luxury of a resort. It has a welcome home feel and vibe. Has coqui frogs singing you to sleep all night. Has beach access out back. Has...

If you are the sort of person who travels because you love learning, marveling at the beauty of the world, or seek the soul healing balm found in moments of divinity like petting a relaxed kitty the color of a lava flow while listening to the...

If you stay anywhere else, you would miss out as this is a very special place. Aloha spirit is alive. Hotels can not give you this unique experience.

Such a unique experience. Raven and Mark's place is in the woods right near what used to be the beach but is now old lava flow. We had the guest suite and the space was large, with a huge private garden attached where you could shower outdoors....

Having breakfast with geckos, seeing fresh ginger flowers outside every day, feeling like princesses in our mosquito-net beds, hearing the frog symphony at night. Such a cool bathroom too.

Ma'ukele Lodge is an owner occupied bed and breakfast that sits on the slopes of Kilauea, and is nestled in a rich mixture of tropical forest, black sand , lava, and ocean. The waves break turquoise on to a black sand beach that is not swimmable for most of the year. 2 1/2 miles up the coast is Kehena beach for great swimming. If you are seeking hotel environment with access to shops, resort restaurants, poolside bars and entertainment, this is not for you. My Inn offers great local breakfasts and a deep immersion into the culture and true lifestyle of the Hawaiian kingdom. Simply put, Hotel life is replicated all over the world , and does not impart the true nature of its location. The lodge is a cross between a bohemian and eclectic 60 year old beach house. The structure wears the ravages of lava flows and tropical hurricanes . I adorn my home in a way that the interior is very open, homey , and the direction of your gaze always is directed to the incredible views from the wrap around lanai. The Hawaiian Suite is a 518 square ft. room with 2 queen beds and a California king bed and an indoor half bathroom . The private garden holds an outdoor clawfoot tub and an outdoor shower. There is a nice sitting area with a variety of fragrant plants and fruit trees. The amenities include a fridge, microwave, hot water kettle, coffee press, a flat screen, and a large welcome fruit basket. The Lava Room is a 177 square ft. room with a partial ocean/lava view. It is on the second floor with a short hallway connecting the room to the communal living area and wrap around deck where breakfast is served. The room has a California king bed, a tiled bathroom with shower, and air conditioning . There is a flat screen, a small fridge, and a welcome fruit basket. My cats are not in the rooms. Remember that experience is an adventure beyond your comfort zone . If you want the known comforts of a resort for your vacation in paradise, this place very far from the beaten path.
