There are also 11 km of walking trails throughout the property, or guests can just relax in the hot tub or have a massage in the spa. The location is the main feature of the property. The lodge is an ex-Smithsonian research site established after the 1968 eruption. It has excellent, private hiking trains that include waterfalls, a frog pond (which we visited multiple times with our children to spot several frogs without any guide), an observation tower, waterfalls, a working farm and more. The views of the volcano are exceptional from both the restaurant, which also overlooks Lake Arenal, and many of the rooms. The grounds are fantastic and the staff put out various food to attract birds and other wildlife. We saw coati, howler monkeys and many birds. It was fantastic and the children loved it. Contrary to some previous reviews, the food was good (not excellent) and I suspect they have altered the menu based on feedback from previous guests.

The manager/owner went out of his way to come by the property with a card reader for payment. He then suggested a few options for excursions.

The hotel was lovely. Our room was stand-alone, with a private terrace and jacuzzi. Everything was very clean, and the reception and restaurant staff friendly and helpful. We frequently walked to the centre which took about 20 minutes.

This place is incredibly special - the staff go out of their way to assist you! I cannot commend or reccomend it more - it is perfect! This place was the equivalent of heaven on earth. I would consider just buying a ticket to Costa Rica to spend a week here and enjoy total peace and relaxation. Our room was big, with a huge balcony that had two chairs and a hammock. The view is amazing. The place feels so safe that you can sleep with the big windows fully open and be woken up by the horses eating grass outside your window. The WiFi worked great. The shower was huge and with water flowing very well. The location is a big farm so you can even go walk and see dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, chickens, anything. They have a swimming pool and a hot tub that you can use anytime you want. They also offer paid laundry service and they have a restaurant. Breakfast was also included and it was great. The hosts and waiters are all really kind and accommodating. Each room has a private parking spot right outside the room. I mean, I could go on for days about how great this place is. My girlfriend and I almost cried when we had to leave. This place is just so great. Do yourself a favor: if you have a car, avoid staying in La Fortuna and stay here. You'll love it.

The room was great and we really loved the free hour in the hot pool as well as the cacao tour and the welcome drink & snacks!
