Every morning the Mar Hotel serves a buffet breakfast. Guests can relax in the sauna or plunge in the hot tub, or even work out in the gym. The hotel rooms were very comfortable and had a balcony with an amazing view of the pool and sea. We lay in bed at night with the door open and listened to the waves and watched the sunrise. The hotel was just outside the town but there is a lovely promenade outside which leads into the town. Pool towels are provided and there is a small gym (which we didn’t use as preferred to run along promenade). Buffet breakfast was very nice. Car parking available on site. There was a lovely restaurant next door to hotel on sea front which was lovely in the evening.

Lovely decor and furniture. Excellent location. Minor quibble: my room was a bit gloomy and the small balcony meant I didn't want to spend much time there. With two people it could even be claustrophobic.

The staff was very friendly, not a corporate hotel but a cosy guest house: you get to meet and chat to the same staff every day, so they start feeling like your friends/family at breakfast.

The apartment complex and the gardens are beautiful. We especially enjoyed the tasty fruits we picked ourselves from the garden. The complex is located in a quiet village in the middle of the island, but close to all the main hikes/attractions/lakes. Only 15-20 minutes from Ponta Delgada. Very recommended.
