The location is a few blocks from Matsumoto Castle. My first day, I got there just in time for sunset at the castle. Pretty special. On my last day, there was a vintage market over by Frog Street, the shopping street, which is also close by. The city history museum, a block away, was fantastic as was the city art museum. From the short easy walk from the bus/train station, to the lovely staff at reception, to the great sized comfortable room, it was all fabulous. It is a former hostel which could easily house 10-15 people across multiple bedrooms and you get to rent the whole thing! It has an unheard-of amount of space for lodging in Japan, and it also happens to be within view of Matsumoto Castle and within easy walking distance to the main draws of Matsumoto city. The hotel staff even cleaned our luggage wheel. The onsen was very nice and had all the amenities needed. We also enjoyed the Japanese style breakfast very much with lots of selections. Photos of the room from the website matches what we see in the room which is very good. Rather small rooms but clean and comfy. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station (turn left after exiting and follow main road until reaching the hotel on left). Although a bit of a walk from the train station, Matsumoto castle is just a very short walk away.
