This boutique hotel is family owned, and the family is there most everyday, they take an active involvement in all of the affairs to provide a personal touch and ensure the highest quality. I really enjoyed meeting them and learning more about the area and the hotel itself. The owner provided excellent restaurant recommendations, we talked cars, and his son Francisco, the Guest Relations manager, provided an excellent trip idea for a drive up into the mountains of Sintra and Colares. They provided a bottle of water on check-in, a personal greeting card with chocolates in the room, and a note on the day of checkout. The bar tenders were great, especially the man who runs the bar at night. We had good conversations and he made good drinks. The hotel has excellent modern amenities, comfortable beds, and a fast internet connection that is good enough for streaming, video calls, or gaming (at least during the off season when I was there). This hotel also has an iron and ironing board in the room! Many hotels in Portugal I've stayed at lack these so you're waiting on housekeeping's hours to access them, and some have had neither, leaving you with wrinkled clothes. This is definitely a big plus from me as I like to press the wrinkles out of my clothes after traveling. The pool is very nice, with great views of the buildings around it while still feeling secluded. Location wise, it's about perfect. A short walk from the main waterfront, train stop, and beach, but being off the main road, not busy and noisy at all hours like that tends to be. I hope to return in the future, this place is excellent.

What a stay! Sometimes you don't want to tell your discoveries, to keep it for yourself. But this one needs to be shared. A magic luxery boutique hotel, on the border or Estoril and Cascais. You enter a world of history but with a contempory atmosphere. Staff is excellent and gives you a feeling of being home with kindness, friendly talks and classy suggestions for restaurants and visits. Also the restaurant in the hotel where breakfast, lunch and diner is served is Michelin worthy.

Pena National Palace

Rising up out of verdant green forest, the yellow and orange hues of the Palace of Pena are truly something to behold. A masterclass in Romanticism, the eclectic 19th-century castle takes influences from Islamic and Medieval architectural styles, amongst many others. The plant life in its vast parklands is also gathered from all over the globe.

This was wonderful.

This was wonderful. We were really glad we got a 9:30 am slot. Not only to beat the crowds but to beat the traffic going up to it. Our driver told us later in the day it can be a 5 hr drive from the train station (it took us about 15 mins). I wish we had arrived by 9:15 am. It would’ve made a more leisurely walk up the hill. There’s a shuttle to take you up - it was packed and they said it took 10 mins - or 10 mins to walk…..it is all up hill. Be sure to wear sneakers. There is a cafeteria to buy water and a snack. We did both this (9:30 ticket) and the Quinta (“The Wishing Well”) on the same day. We had a 1 pm ticket for Quinta - wish it had been for 3 pm. We needed more time at Pena - easily need 3.5 - 4 hrs

Beautiful place but Note there was scaffolding up on palace...

Beautiful place but Note there was scaffolding up on palace when we were there in peak summer season so a little disappointed they didn’t have a work around for the peak period! It’s chaos hard to get too so do plan or save yourself the heartache & go with an organised tour, expect to be pushed through like cattle! Don’t prepay your tickets for anything else only the Pena is busy so give yourself the flexibility rather then committing beforehand!

The gardens are beautiful, the views from the castle walls are stunning. Don’t bother with the tour of the interior of the castle, it’s just one long queue all the way. Just get the garden ticket in the spot and save yourself the stress.

Portugal does Disney.

Portugal does Disney. The only reason to purchase a Palace ticket is to get into the Chalet. Skip the Palace tour - but cover every inch of the exceptional gardens, they are gobstopping. Driving up there is challenging, finding parking is even worse. Drop a Google maps pin where you park!

Cattle class in here, shoved through.

Cattle class in here, shoved through. Magnificent from the outside but the need to book a specific time, be there early, felt we wasted time we could have spent elsewhere. Beautiful and a must view for Sintra but choose carefully if you are limited for time.
