Everyone who visits Thailand should make an effort to walk the trail where POW's worked relentlessly in poor conditions, overwhelming heat and fed a daily bowl of rice. Take the train from Bangkok Thon Buri trai station.
Take the train from Bangkok Thon Buri trai station. You get there with the riverboat and walk across. The trainride is excellent. About 2 h. through non tourist areas and dirt cheap. Buy a few snacks at the market before leaving. Book a nice room near the main street and have a full english breakfast at one of the bars.
