The property had amazing attention to detail in their service from the baths up to Saki Kawauchi who personally went the extra mile for us to understand our full course meal during dinner. The free yakult nd ramen was also very thoughtful.
Takayama City, Takayama
Guests can unwind in our communal hot spring baths and enjoy the provided yukata robes for a truly Japanese experience. Each room is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi, an LCD TV, amenities, a refrigerator, Japanese tea set, and an electric kettle for your convenience. We also provide complimentary bottled water. From you enter the reception you are met with a beautiful traditional Japanese interier, it is very well done. Everyone there were very polite and respectful, from staff to other guests. We three women arrived around 16, were able to select a cute yukata each we wore as much as possible for our one night stay, and were shown our room which were as big as a small apartment. We choose to go directly to the onsen which had just opened for the afternoon and had the place for ourselves. Very well stocked with brushes, hairties, lotions, everything free to use! the rooms were nice and comfortable, there was a beautiful tea set for us to use so we had a tea party in our yukatas, before dinner. We had paid for the dinner which was serving after serving of small dishes and a particularly tasty hida beef with miso dish. The beds and shower were great, nothing to complain about there, we had the traditional breakfast the day after with a self serve bar of drinks such as tea, coffee, juice and milk. Oh and we also went down to the onsen before breakfast and were once again alone to relax and take our time. It was probably the most expensive stay we have included on our trip but it was also by far the best experience we have had, and can recommend anyone to try it even just for a night like us, if not more ☺️

The hotel features hot-spring baths, a restaurant serving breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This ryokan is introduced in Michelin Green Guide Japan. Everything was simply perfect. The staff were amazing and extremely friendly! The rooms are spacious and while a bit dated, they are clean and very cozy. Being able to book a private hot bath was also very welcome. It is only a few minutes away from the Train/Bus station, but as soon as you enter the domain of the hotel, it feels as if you step from the city straight into an Onsen town. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night.

Well, I don't even know where to start. The summary - this Hotel is definitely the highlight point of our whole 2024 journey through Japan. For context - it's the third time we are in this country and this time we've been traveling for a whole month. If you have a chance to go here - don't hesitate. This is the hotel to enjoy the culture and cuisine most conveniently. As for the details: Japanese-Western Room with Hot Spring Bath - exceeded all of my expectations several times. Just wow, this new, this modern yet with a very clear Japanese style, and the second wow for all of the space, such a luxury! The wood, the details, the quality, impeccable cleanness. The bath deserved its own wow. So convenient, with regulated heat and a wide window with an option to open it and keep privacy. The staff speaks English very well. Lots of additional perks like simple but free "nighttime ramen", beverages, snacks, and sake. Great onsen space with additional private but free spots to enjoy it for couples, kids, and friends. Well managed, friendly. And the building itself - the amazingly decorated corridors, the lamps, the floors, the info tables, and the signs - I've enjoyed every inch of them. Well done with the whole design and keeping it in such a great shape. We've had half board options - high-quality Kaiseki for breakfast and Shabu-Shabu or Yakiniku for dinner. The hotel offers helpful transfer, convenient for large travel bag users. Without them - it's pretty close to the bus station. So many things I liked, but the last one to mention is the view from our restaurant counter, it really looks like a picture, but it's the mindblowing reality.

An excellent place to stay. Food was excellent and facilities were great. The private onsens was the main reason we decided to stay here. They had a small, medium and large private onsens on top of the public baths that were available. Very easy to access and the perfect getaway for myself and the wifey!

With an open-air bath, the 3-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. The ryokan features mountain views and a picnic area. The dinner was amazing - very delicious, thoughtfully plated and almost too much food for one person. The breakfast was very tasty too and I appreciated a lot that for breakfast in my part of the dining are the table and the chairs were repositioned so that I could look outside of the window to the maple trees and mountains while enjoying my breakfast. The outdoor onsen was beautiful, and in general the interior and details in the decoration were thoughtfully made. The accommodation keeper was extremely attentive and gave me a ride to the bus stop when leaving. When arriving to the hotel he picked me up as he saw me walking on the road and I hadn’t checked my messages where he said he could pick me up from the main road bus stop.

This traditional ryokan comes with a nice in/outdoor onsen in a perfectly tranquil environment in the middle of the mountains, which is perfect to take a break from a busy few weeks traveling through Japan. Both breakfast and dinner were a treat, as was the service received throughout our stay. Great value for money as well.
Well appointed traditional Ryokan. Super clean rooms and comfy futons. Attached hot spring bath is intimate and cosy. Public baths were great too.. The dinner and breakfast were super delicious
Rustic ryokan in a beautiful setting, well worth the effort to travel out to. The staff were very friendly and speak good english, both the public and private onsens were clean and well maintained. We had a tasty meal of hida beef and the breakfasts were also very nice. We visited in summer but would love to return in winter as the scenery would be truly stunning!
Very nice Ryokan with fantastic food and nice private onsen.
It was my first experience staying in Japanese Ryokan and I'm super happy that I've chosen Ryokan Murayama. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The Ryokan also has special private Onsens were you can stay with you only your group regardless the gender. The special dinner we order was also quite nice.
A charming and dated ryokan yet affordable with an onsen. My room had a comfortable "balcony" with two chairs and a table, making the most comfortable traditional Japanese room I've stayed. The view over Takayama was great. The staff spoke sufficient English and the wifi worked fine. They serve good Japanese breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30. The Japanese dinner they offer is excellent, though somewhat expensive at 6050 yen. Private onsen for 40 minutes costs 1000 yen. Would definitely come again.
The best ryokan experience we’ve ever had. We barely left the hotel as It’s so relaxing just sit in the cafe or our room and taking in the scenery of the autumn leaves and the mountains. The outdoor onsen was amazing. The private onsen in our room was really nice too. Everything was perfect! Thank you to all the staff at Yunoshimakan we had an amazing time there.
This is not a Ryokan in the true sense but it gets close. The room is big with its own small onsen/bathtub. It's very clean and comfortable. The outdoor onsen is nice. The indoor ones we didn't try (we only stayed one night). The beds are real mattresses. Breakfast is generous and in Kaiseki-style. We didn't book dinner at the hotel. Would recommend.
Bot the public and the private onsen were lovely. If you have tattoos you can just queue up and use one of the three private hot springs. If you go at certain times of the day, there is no one so you can enjoy all the three of them easily. The room was nice, spacious and the bed comfy. Breakfast was also very good, with a great variety and mix of continental and Japanese..
The hot spring is great especially private onsen
