Lovely, comfortable hotel in Walapane. We loved everything about it. Our room with ensuite bathroom was fabulous, and the staff made us feel very welcome. We ate dinner and breakfast there, and both were delicious. Highly recommended.

I liked many things about Nuga Retreat. First of all, the beautiful, natural surroundings with mountain views created a unique atmosphere of peace and relaxation. The rooms were comfortable and well-equipped, providing convenience, and the outdoor pool was a great place to unwind. I also really appreciated the friendly and helpful staff who truly made an effort to ensure our stay was enjoyable.

I was prepared for this place to be good and a step up in terms of luxury compared to my other accommodation on the Pekoe Trail but my expectations were, in fact, exceeded. Manu is the property manager and he went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and all of my needs met. For a young gentleman he has a lot of hospitality experience and manages the property with professionalism and charm. Chef Bandula - what can I say? His meals were better than I would expect from a 5 star establishment. Everything cooked to perfection and presented to a high standard. An evening meal in the restaurant in front of a blazing fire was a highlight. Morgan, who provided general assistance, was always at hand and seemed like part of the furniture (in a good, traditional way). Duminda who worked as a butler was also attentive and professional and I am sure has a good career in F&B ahead of him. If you are doing the pekoe trail and have been kind of roughing it for a few days then this is a good place to recuperate, get some washing done and prepare yourself for more walking. It is quite away from the end point of Trail 20 and start point of 21 but it was easy enough to get a 3-wheeler from Uda Pussellawa - if you call Manu, he can also support with this. The 3-wheeler charged $14 for the 20km trip which was reasonable. All in all an excellent place to stay, I highly recommend it.

An absolute gem of a place. A nice big room with a comfortable bed and views out over the outskirts of the town and onto the tea plantations. There's also a common area with sofa and dining table. Breakfast that was included in the room price was good typical Sri Lankan. I also had an evening meal on both nights which was ok and saved me going into town but wasn't great if I'm honest. Location is around 15 minutes walk to Lovers Leap waterfall. And there's a bus stop a few minutes walk away where buses are every few minutes and cost 35 rupees in to the town centre.
