The host (Giovanni) is very kind and always up for a conversation. He loves dogs so for dog owners, his is a good home! The rooms are a bit dated but that is part of the Italian charm. The first night we had to get used to the hard bed but the second and third night we slept so good on that bed. The breakfast is typical Italian and including some made options. We enjoyed our stay here!

The kitchenette was a thing of beauty in its design and had all we need for a three night stay. The lady owner and her brother-in-law do speak some English, enough to offer help where needed. Good bed and quick to get hot water. The faucet water here was excellent for drinking. The one and only local restaurant offered a simple but good menu. We also got our favourite dish after ordering it two days ahead. The village has a very safe feel since it is so remote from cities. You may want to get yourself some food on the way up here since there is only the little store/bar/ restaurant in town and that is closed on Wednesday.

Right by a little stone bridge across the river that runs through the hamlet next to Castelnuovo di Garfagnano. Town is a few minutes drive away with a good selection of restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarkets. even a cinema! Johanna was a delightful, albeit virtual, host, and very helpful with suggestions. Be careful of the river though. it can rise very quickly as my daughter discovered and Johanna warned. Beautiful walk up to the fort and back to town. An idyllic part of rural Italy.
