The hotel rooms are outstanding big with good cupboard space, a comfy bed, well equipped bathroom, and as we were there in winter - good heating. Breakfast buffet offers a big variety of food (cold and hot, salty and sweet). Spa - the swimming pool is a good size for swimming and temperature of the water makes you stay in comfortably. The use of sauna area and steam bath is mixed, which is not everyone´s liking. Food was great. The hotel is located close enough to the lift to walk (ski equipment left in locker by lift). The walk is interesting as there are little cafes and shops on route and the views are amazing. There is also a mini bus which runs to and from the lift, which we tended to catch in the morning but we enjoyed the walk back every afternoon. I loved Bad Gastein’s mix of Belle Époque elegance and wild mountain scenery. Mornings meant hiking and cable-car views; afternoons were for soaking in the thermal waters; evenings, cozy bars and great food. The waterfall running through town gives the whole place a dramatic energy. I've been visiting Bad Hofgastein for 12 years in the summer holiday, and with every visit it gets a bigger space in my heart. Plenty of memories, plenty of relaxation, plenty of beautiful and peaceful sceneries, and every year people are being nicer and sweeter. Bad Gastein is an amazing mix of natural beauty and old-world charm, surrounded by stunning mountains and lush forests. In winter its a fantastic skiing area, and since its over 1000 meters elevated they usually have a long skiing season. In summer its great for hiking! We visited the thermal pool, the minimum stay is 4 hours, which is probably little bit too long, but the water was nice and warm, outdoor pool with a mountain view. Shops available. Petrol station available. Skilift right at the center. Bad Gastein is a totally magical place, if you like rowdy slope side apres and a buzzy town centre, go to St Anton. Bad Gastien's signature are it's spa and the weirdly magical atmosphere the huge number of belle epoch hotels, some refurbed an open, some semi-abandoned, some totally derelict. It’s nice little town. If you like skiing and bathing in one of spa areas, then you will enjoy. Not lot of restaurants and good ones are always reserved so you need to prebook if you want to have lunch or dinner.
