Very nice town with everything for a pleasant stay.
Very nice town with everything for a pleasant stay. The river, the old town, the hill with the vineyards, the boats through the Wahau valley. The bike routs. All these are worth trying. There are enough and different restaurants for every taste. We were there to try local food and wine and we were not disappointed. We cycled to Spitz with our 8 year old son, had lunch and took a boat back - really exciting for the boy.Guest review byboyanBulgaria - 10.0

Nice to walk around by the riversides and within the city. Restaurant "Mahlzeit in Melk" has friendly staff, worth to sit in if hungry. House on the rock is an interesting house, worth to wander and wonder it around.Guest review byGáborHungary - 10.0

Wachau is an absolutely wonderful destination for people who love good food, fantastic wine and beautiful scenery and architecture. A bicycle tour is a great choice, as one can explore in their own pace the villages and vineyards and anytime stop and wonder at the historic architecture, castles and fortresses and breathtaking views of the Danube and surrounding landscapes. Dürnstein is one of Wachau's jewels, certainly worth taking the time to visit, from the atmospheric medieval cobbled streets, to the impressive architecture and of course the ruins on the hill, known as where once Richard Lionheart was imprisoned.Guest review byOanaAustria - 8.0

We were on the way to Budapest and for us Pöchlarn was a great stop. We also wanted to visit Melk Abbey and Pöchlarn was ideally placed for an afternoon tour. However, since we only stayed one night I cannot judge the village or its surroundings.Guest review byOrr - 10.0

Weissenkirchen is an absolutely fantcastic place right in the heart of Wachau. The landscape and architecture are amazing. The city is full of history and at the same time very contemporary and nicely kept. Explore the many narrow lanes and foothpaths and make sure to taste the local specialities and drinks in the many "Heurigens" in Weissenkirchen. If you are into Wine this is definitely one of the best places to go in Austria. My favourites were white wines, namely the Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners. The white wines are rated in three classes: For me it works out this way: Starting a good dinner with a light Steinfeder as an apperitive, followed by a Federspiel for the main course and crowned by the full bodied Smaragd with remarkable bouquet and taste together with the amazing Marillenknödel as dessert.Guest review byJohannesAustria - 10.0

We were thrilled to be able to stay in the countryside and not in a tourist town like Melk. We loved coming back to the cozy tower every day after our excursions and relaxing on the outdoor seating area. The apartment is spacious, modern, clean and perfectly equipped. Our stay at the tower in Leiben was wonderful and we definitely plan to return.Guest review byBarboraCzech Republic - 10.0
Nice old city, lots of restaurants, bars and wine bars.
Nice old city, lots of restaurants, bars and wine bars. Good location for shopping. Bakeries opened each day, no problem to find breakfast early in the morning. Small city, easy to go by foot everywhere. I reccomend boat trip Krems-Spitz-Krems, wonderful. Tasting wine in Spitz exceeded our expectations. Very nice green Donau´s nature, vineyards everywhere. Super!Guest review byMáriaSlovakia - 10.0

Melk is a charming, quiet town where I would return as many times as possible. Melk Abbey is extremely imposing, beautiful and full of history. It is a must visit. The Abbey gardens are also splendid. Walking around the town or on the banks of the Danube is a pleasure. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes. You can also take cruises on the Danube.Guest review byMirela IoanaRomania - 10.0

It's an old monastery that is the hallmark of the village. The village is about one millenium years and has a fortress ruin overlooking it all. The forests and mountainous hills all around is a magic place for hikes and discovering amazing castles and churches.Guest review byMattiasGermany
